EL ELYON, THE MOST HIGH G-D

Genesis 28:10-12: “Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”

When Jacob left Be’ersheva for Haran, he stopped at a place for the night and using a stone for a pillow he slept and had a dream.

He dreamed that he saw a ladder to heaven on which G-d’s angels ascended and descended. This was no ordinary dream; rather this was a powerful, prophetic dream in which G-d promised Jacob that, through his descendants, all the earth would be blessed.

The Hebrew word for ‘providence’, which is the wisdom, care, and guidance provided by Almighty G-d, is ‘hashgacha ha’Elyonah’, denoting Almighty G-d whose name is El Elyon (G-d the Most High).

El Elyon is G-d who has dominion over all the powers and forces in existence, and He is the highest in every realm of life.

The description of Jacob’s dream is among the most beautiful in literature. He dreamed that he saw a ladder to heaven on which G-d’s angels ascended and descended. G-d stood over him and promised to give him and his descendants the land on which he lay.

G-d then promised Jacob that, through his descendants, all the earth would be blessed. G-d also promised to stay with him wherever he went and bring him back to the land.

Jacob then took the stone from under his head, and set it up as a monument, and poured oil on it.

He then vowed that if G-d would protect him on his travels, give him bread and clothing, and return him to his father’s house in peace, G-d would be his G-d, the stone monument would be G-d’s house, and he would give G-d a tenth of all that he would receive from Him.

The message of Jacob’s dream is that the earth is full of the glory of the L-rd, and Almighty G-d is not far off in His heavenly abode and unmindful of what men do on earth.

The angels who are ‘ascending and descending’ in Jacob’s dream are a guarantee that G-d is not unmindful of what men do on earth.

We read in Genesis 28:10-11: “Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night”.

The Hebrew word used for “a certain place” is ‘ba’makom ha’hu’. “A certain place” is not the best translation, and the correct translation is “the place”.

Why this is significant, is that Rabbinical study states “the Place” is Mount Moriah, the very mountain where Abraham was to sacrifice Jacob’s father, Isaac.

This is the very mountain where the Temple stood and the very mountain where the Third Temple will stand.

‘Moriah’ means ‘ordained’ or ‘considered by the L-rd’. It is to Israel, G-d’s ordained land that Yeshua will return, and it is to Jerusalem, G-d’s ordained city that Yeshua will return.

And when Yeshua returns to Jerusalem, He will stand with His feet on the Mount of Olives. We see this in Zechariah 14:4: “And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east.”

When you stand on the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem and gaze upon the Old City, you see Mount Moriah; the very mountain where Jacob (who was renamed Israel), the father of the Jewish people, had His powerful, prophetic dream that has guided the course of history to today.

Genesis 28:13 declares: “And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: “I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.””

Again, this is not a perfect translation! Your Bible says in verse13: “And behold, the LORD stood above it”. However the Hebrew reads: “v’hinei Adonai nitzav alav”; and the correct translation is: “And Behold the LORD stood beside him”.

This shows that G-d stood beside Jacob as He stood beside Abraham and Isaac helping them ascend to the fullness of what He had for them.

And El Elyon is standing beside Jacob’s descendants, the Jewish people, to this day helping them ascend to the fullness of what He has for them – salvation and eternal life.

El Elyon is also standing with the grafted-in church to this day helping them ascend to the fullness of what He has for them as builders of His Kingdom.

Which brings me to a Jewish thought that asks a question: “Do angels need a ladder? After all, they do have wings”. And this gives way to a beautiful thought:

Many people are discouraged from beginning a spiritual journey because they think it needs a huge leap of faith; yet this is not so.

In climbing heavenwards, one does not necessarily need wings for there is a ladder to heaven which is a beautiful spiritual route clearly mapped out for us and that needs to be traversed step-by-step, one rung at a time.

There is an easy, gradual step-by-step approach to the spiritual journey of redemption: Confess your sins; repent of your sins; receive the L-rd’s forgiveness; then receive Yeshua as L-rd and Saviour.

Yet so many people, including my people, don’t realise that Yeshua is the ladder to heaven. And to get to heaven takes this easy step-by-step approach.

And the reason my people don’t know this is that nobody is telling them.

Don’t deny Jewish people – or anyone – access to heaven by not telling them how easy it is to get into heaven. My people think that this step-by-step approach is works and the Law, They are wrong, as heaven only comes through Yeshua.

He is the ladder, and they need to be told this.

Don’t look down the ladder and see those who are at the bottom of the ladder as those with no hope of ascending up the ladder into heaven, because if you do, you are dooming those at the bottom of the ladder to an eternity in hell, separated from Almighty G-d.

You see, the devil doesn’t have dominion over our lives; only El Elyon, the Most High G-d, has dominion over our lives, and He has a perfect and beautiful future for you.

All you need do is believe in Yeshua and accept Him as your L-rd and Saviour, because He is your ladder to heaven.
